EDEM's API enables coupling with other CAE software and external models. EDEM is the first commercial DEM software to be coupled directly with CFD software to model solid-fluid phase systems at the particle-scale. This capability enables particle-fluid problems to be simulated which cannot successfully be addressed using CFD multi-phase models alone. Examples include pneumatic transport of particles, fluidized beds, slurry handling and separation processes and many more.
Explicit solution of particle-particle and particle-wall interactions is particularly useful for simulating systems involving changes build-up of particles (transition from dilute to dense packing) or dispersion of particles in a fluid (transition from dense to dilute).
EDEM can be used to compute the dynamics of the solid phase including fluid drag forces with or without momentum exchange with the fluid phase.
