Fluidized beds are used in the chemical industry for a number of processes such as chemical reactions, coating of particles, and mixing and drying. Above the minimum fluidization velocity the particles behave and flow like a fluid. For the example shown, the base plate at the bottom of the fluidized bed is a velocity inlet. The velocity can be varied to analyze the mixing affect on the particles.
